Nick Cassidy’s stunning comeback steals Formula E’s Mexico City E-Prix: winners and losers revealed!

Title: Formula E’s Mexico City Showdown: Triumphs, Disappointments, and Unforgettable Moments!

In the electrifying world of Formula E, the 2026 Mexico City E-Prix unfolded like a blockbuster film, packed with intense rivalries, dramatic comebacks, and heartbreaking losses. While some drivers soared to victory, others were left to grapple with the bitter sting of missed opportunities. Strap in as we dissect the winners and losers from this riveting race!

Nick Cassidy Shocks the Field with a Stunning Comeback!

The crown jewel of the day was undoubtedly Nick Cassidy, who stormed from a dismal 13th position on the grid to claim a jaw-dropping victory for Citroen Racing. This was the moment Stellantis had been waiting for when they snatched up Cassidy last spring! His journey to the top was nothing short of masterful. Despite a rocky start in practice, where he struggled with tire temperatures, Cassidy recalibrated, strategized, and executed a flawless race.

“I didn’t think we were OK until the last lap,” Cassidy confessed, reflecting on his incredible journey to the front. His strategic deployment of attack modes, combined with deft defensive maneuvers against Edoardo Mortara, showcased why he’s a force to be reckoned with. “You can’t win this race with a bad car,” he emphasized, crediting his team for their critical support.

Adding to Citroen’s triumph, Jean-Eric Vergne made a remarkable recovery from 18th to finish 8th, proving the team’s depth and resilience.

Porsche’s Disappointment: A Season to Forget?

In stark contrast, Porsche left Mexico City with their heads hanging low, finishing 6th and 9th. With high hopes riding on Pascal Wehrlein, the team struggled to find their footing at the altitude of Mexico City. Despite early attempts to claw back into contention, their usual dominance was nowhere to be found.

“The starting position was compromising,” admitted Porsche’s motorsport director Florian Modlinger, lamenting the missed chances. Ten months without a victory is a heavy burden for a team with such a stellar pedigree.

Oliver Rowland: A Champion’s Resilience!

Oliver Rowland showcased his champion’s mettle, snatching a commendable 3rd place. Despite encountering a mid-race mishap that threatened to derail his progress, Rowland regrouped and executed a brilliant final attack mode strategy that left his competitors in the dust. “I thought my race was done, but we were really efficient,” he reflected, embodying the spirit of a true competitor.

Jaguar’s Woes Continue: A Season of Frustration!

Jaguar, however, is still battling the dark clouds of misfortune. With Mitch Evans finishing a disheartening 11th and Antonio Felix da Costa forced to retire following a delaminating tire, the team’s struggles were palpable. Da Costa, who had shown promise in qualifying, lamented, “Just wrong time, wrong place,” as he exited the race prematurely due to an unfortunate crash.

Edoardo Mortara: So Close, Yet So Far!

Edoardo Mortara, driving for Mahindra, displayed remarkable skill and tenacity, finishing in a strong 2nd place after overcoming significant challenges, including a last-minute car rebuild. Despite the pressure, Mortara maintained his composure throughout the race, nearly clinching victory. “I could have been on the top step,” he lamented, as he eyed Cassidy’s Citroen in the closing laps.

Envision’s Nightmare: A Race to Forget!

Envision Racing experienced a day to forget, with polesitter Sebastien Buemi finishing at the back of the pack after a disastrous start. “I just braked too late,” Buemi admitted, reflecting on a rookie mistake that cost him dearly. His teammate Joel Eriksson also struggled, finishing 14th amid a series of mishaps.

Pepe Marti: A Rising Star!

Amidst the chaos, Pepe Marti emerged as a beacon of hope, finishing 7th after starting at the back of the grid. Overcoming a ten-second penalty, Marti showcased extraordinary resilience and strategic prowess. His team principal hailed his performance, stating, “He did a great job to get where he did,” emphasizing the significance of his strong finish.

Nyck de Vries: The Season’s Biggest Disappointment?

For Nyck de Vries, the reigning champion, the weekend was a total disaster. With a lackluster qualifying and an early exit due to electrical issues, his title aspirations are hanging by a thread. “I need to reset,” he said, ready to face the challenges ahead.

As the dust settles on this thrilling Mexico City E-Prix, the Formula E landscape is charged with anticipation. With winners basking in glory and losers grappling with frustration, all eyes will be on the next race! Will Cassidy and Citroen maintain their momentum, or will Porsche reclaim their dominance? The stage is set for another breathtaking showdown!
