Nick Cassidy shocks the world with stunning Mexico E-Prix win: Citroen’s dream debut!

Nick Cassidy Ignites Formula E with Dazzling Victory in Mexico City for Citroen!

In a spectacular display of skill and strategy, Nick Cassidy has catapulted Citroen into the limelight of Formula E, declaring the Mexico City E-Prix a “dream start” for the renowned French automaker. The stakes were high for Citroen, making its exhilarating debut in the 2025/26 season, and Cassidy delivered beyond expectations, clinching victory in only their second race!

Starting from an unassuming 13th position on the grid, the 31-year-old driver executed a tactical masterclass, showcasing a level of battery management that left his competitors in the dust. Employing an unconventional strategy—activating a six-minute Attack Mode late in the race—Cassidy turned the tables, ultimately securing his 12th series victory. This achievement brings him tantalizingly close to the record held by legends Sebastien Buemi and Mitch Evans, while also propelling him to the forefront of the championship race in pursuit of his first title.

Cassidy couldn’t contain his enthusiasm after the race, exclaiming, “Wow, for the team, for Citroen – what an entrance to Formula E. This has been a dream start. Very, very happy for everyone!” His podium finish was complemented by strong performances from Edoardo Mortara and reigning champion Oliver Rowland, making for a thrilling contest at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Reflecting on his unique strategy, Cassidy noted, “It was quite different for me today. Don’t know if I’ve ever taken a six-minute and a two. It’s quite rare, but it seemed to work.” As he crossed the finish line, doubts lingered about his ability to maintain his lead, with thoughts of slipping to fourth place creeping in. “I was almost kind of thinking I might end up fourth, but I was happy with that. Strategy-wise, sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn’t, today it did.”

History is firmly on Cassidy’s side as the last three winners of the Mexico City E-Prix have all gone on to secure the Formula E world title in the same year. While he deftly sidestepped questions about his championship ambitions, Cassidy expressed a newfound confidence in Citroen’s progress since the pre-season testing in Valencia. “In Valencia, I was quite comfortable with qualifying pace, with development and new things that we were working on,” he elaborated, underscoring the remarkable growth he’s witnessed during his time with Citroen.

Cassidy’s teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne, finished strong as well, taking eighth place, further illustrating the team’s potential. The dynamic duo’s performances signal a promising future for Citroen in the high-octane world of Formula E.

“We’ve probably had the most development in these three months that I’ve ever seen or been part of in Formula E—so that’s been really impressive,” Cassidy emphasized, hinting at a season filled with potential and excitement. With the momentum firmly on their side, fans and competitors alike should brace themselves for what Citroen and Nick Cassidy have in store as they charge ahead in the championship battle!
