Next generation of Mazda CX-5 will be hybrid

Próxima geração do Mazda CX-5 será híbrida

Mazda has confirmed that it will move forward with the third generation of the CX-5, the best-selling model of the Japanese brand in the USA in 2023, and will feature a hybrid engine.

The announcement of the new generation of the CX-5 was discreetly made in the document that revealed the company’s financial results for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024, where it made clear that the new generation of the crossover will make use of an internally developed hybrid engine.

However, the Japanese brand did not reveal whether the engine destined for the new generation of the CX-5 will be a traditional hybrid or a plug-in hybrid. It is worth noting that Mazda uses Toyota’s hybrid know-how for some models, such as in the Chinese market where Mazda has a CX-50 HEV that uses a Toyota Rav4 engine with a four-cylinder 2.5-liter gasoline engine with up to two electric motors.

In the same document, Mazda states that a hybrid CX-50 is planned to arrive in other markets in the second half of 2024.

In the coming years, Mazda has announced that it will focus on growing the segment of 100% electric models, with plans to launch what it calls “e-Mazda.”

According to the same report, this includes the introduction of a new electric vehicle model in 2027 that will be based on the Japanese brand’s first dedicated electric platform.
