Newey and Red Bull recently announced their separation after the first quarter of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship. Newey’s future plans are still uncertain, as he contemplates taking a break from the sport or potentially joining a rival team such as Scuderia Ferrari.
The demand for Newey’s expertise as a designer and technical director is exceptionally high, with several teams reaching out to negotiate potential contracts as soon as he leaves Red Bull. Throughout his career, Newey has accumulated an impressive record of 13 combined Drivers’ and Constructors’ championships with Red Bull, as well as 12 championships with Williams and McLaren.
During the remaining period of his tenure as Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull, Newey will focus on the hypercar concept RB17. This street-legal vehicle, fully designed and developed by Newey and his team of engineers at the Red Bull factory, features a hybrid V10 engine that produces over 1,100 horsepower. Inspired by Formula 1 technology, the RB17 incorporates advancements such as ground effect and a carbon chassis. Only 50 RB17s will be produced, with production starting next year.
The highly anticipated debut of the RB17 will take place at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 12. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner expressed his excitement, stating: “We are thrilled to reveal the RB17 to the public for the first time, and there is no better platform than the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed.” Horner further emphasized the rarity and engineering excellence of the RB17, highlighting the team’s dedication to creating the ultimate high-performance car.
Red Bull will have a significant presence at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed as it celebrates 20 years of involvement in Formula 1. The exhibition will feature almost every car ever produced by Red Bull, starting with the 2005 Formula 1 World Championship RB1.
Several of the racing cars designed by Adrian Newey will also take part in the iconic Goodwood hill climb. F1 race winner David Coulthard and former Minardi driver Patrick Friesacher, among others, will be behind the wheel.
During the four-day event, taking place from July 11th to 14th, the historic Red Bull F1 lineup will be on display at the heart of the Goodwood Cathedral Paddock, with the stunning Goodwood House in the background.
The Duke of Richmond, founder of the Festival of Speed, expressed his satisfaction with Red Bull’s presence at the event, especially on its 20th anniversary. He revealed that the highly anticipated RB17 will make its global public debut at the Festival of Speed, adding that fans will be thrilled to see a variety of cars and championship-winning team drivers.
Meanwhile, the Red Bull F1 team is gearing up for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Europe. The race is scheduled for Sunday, May 19th, at 14:00 BST (15:00 local time).
