The Renault 5 was a unique car, known for its avant-garde design, versatility, and fuel frugality. It addressed the challenges of its time for millions of families, responding to the oil crisis, lifestyle changes, and the need for a second car. Half a century later, the icon is back on the road.
With just 3.92 meters in length, the new Renault 5 E-Tech 100% electric is positioned between the Twingo (30 cm shorter) and the Clio (9 cm longer). It is the first vehicle entirely designed on the AmpR Small, the new Ampere platform dedicated to electric vehicles in the B segment. This makes it a unique vehicle with real competitive advantages, including a flat floor, long wheelbase (2.54m), optimized interior space and trunk capacity (326 liters), lower center of gravity, and reduced weight (less than 1,500kg).
At the start of commercialization, it will have a 150 hp electric motor powered by a 52 kWh battery.
Later on, there will be more affordable versions with a 95 or 120 hp engine, always in combination with the 40 kWh battery.
In the most powerful version, the Renault 5 E-Tech electric accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 150 km/h.
The 52 kWh battery allows for a range of up to 400 km, while the 40 kWh battery announces 300 km between charges, which can be done at stations with up to 100 kW.
The batteries include only three or four large modules, compared to the 12 smaller modules in the Megane E-Tech electric and the ZOE. This simplified architecture brings weight savings.
