In a startling revelation from the latest season of Netflix’s F1 docu-series Drive to Survive, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is heard using an inappropriate term to describe McLaren CEO Zak Brown. The uncensored footage, originally edited out, sparked controversy after it was exposed.

The critically acclaimed seventh season of Drive to Survive, set to release this Friday, extensively covers the thrilling F1 2024 season, where Red Bull and McLaren engaged in an intense competition for the top spot. The season witnessed Red Bull’s ace driver Max Verstappen outmaneuver McLaren’s star player Lando Norris to secure his fourth consecutive Drivers’ Championship. Verstappen’s win catapulted him to the position of being the second driver in the history of F1 to clinch his first four titles in consecutive years.

However, Red Bull faced a significant setback, falling to an underwhelming third place in the Constructors’ standings, while McLaren celebrated their first teams’ title in 26 years. This season was marked by several altercations between Verstappen and Norris, particularly during the Austrian and Mexican grand prix, which led to escalating tensions between their respective teams.

One of the most talked-about episodes of the forthcoming Drive to Survive season, as reported by PlanetF1.com, shows Horner referring to Brown with a derogatory term while navigating through Red Bull’s hospitality unit during the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Times, a British newspaper, later revealed that the original unedited clip had Horner using a more offensive term to describe Brown.

The seventh season of Drive to Survive is packed with revelations and dramatic developments. One of the key highlights includes Lewis Hamilton’s unexpected decision to make a switch from Mercedes to Ferrari for the F1 2025 season, causing a ripple in the racing world. This move opened the door for Mercedes boss Toto Wolff to initiate discussions with Verstappen, as he was no longer bound by his promise to Hamilton of not approaching the Red Bull driver.

Wolff, however, candidly admits to facing challenges in persuading the reigning World Champion Verstappen to part ways with Red Bull. Quoting Wolff, “It’s so difficult with Max. There’s a one per cent chance that Max changes his mind.”

The docu-series also briefly links Mercedes with Carlos Sainz, who had replaced Hamilton at Ferrari for F1 2025. But Sainz chose to ink a multi-year contract with Williams when the leading teams showed lukewarm interest in the four-time race winner. The series also features a candid conversation between Sainz and Hamilton about the potential seat swap and the future prospects of Mercedes.

With its engaging narratives and behind-the-scenes revelations, the new season of Drive to Survive is set to keep F1 fans hooked. It offers a comprehensive look at the dramatic events, rivalries, and shifting dynamics of the F1 2024 season, making it an absolute must-watch for racing enthusiasts.
