National car market falls 7.5% in July

The Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP) revealed this Thursday that the national car market registered a 7.5% decrease in July compared to the same period in 2023, with 17,409 new vehicles registered.

This was the second consecutive decrease in the national car market, after a 4.7% decrease in June.

In terms of categories, the passenger car market, the segment with the highest weight, saw 14,550 vehicles registered, which corresponds to a 9.5% decrease compared to July 2023.

On the other hand, the light commercial vehicle market registered a positive evolution of 5.8% in the seventh month of 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year, with 2,285 registered units.

Regarding the heavy vehicle market, which includes both passenger and commercial types, there was a 2.5% decrease in the seventh month of 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, with 574 vehicles of this category being sold.

In cumulative terms, in the first seven months of 2024, 154,604 new vehicles were put into circulation, representing a 5.8% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to ACAP data, from January to July, passenger car registrations totaled 130,967 units, which resulted in a positive variation of 3.8% compared to the same period in 2023. In the same period, the light commercial vehicle market advanced by 20.6% compared to the same period of the year 2023, reaching 19,149 registered units.
