NASCAR Stars Suarez and Blaney Dazzle Fans with Lucha Libre Antics in Mexico City Promo Tour

In an electrifying spectacle that left fans spellbound, NASCAR stars Daniel Suárez and Ryan Blaney took their competitive spirit from the racetrack to the wrestling ring. During a promotional tour in Mexico City, ahead of NASCAR’s much-anticipated return to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the drivers engaged in a high-octane wrestling match that has since gone viral on social media.

Known for his charisma both on and off the tracks, Suárez has a history of entertaining crowds. Back in 2019, WWE legend Rey Mysterio introduced him at an event with a spirited welcome, to which Suárez humorously responded, showcasing his quick wit. Now, in 2025, he revisited the wrestling spotlight, but this time, he wasn’t just a spectator. Joined by fellow drivers such as Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, and Christopher Bell, Suárez turned a promotional tour into an adrenaline-filled evening that had fans on the edge of their seats.

The climax of the event occurred when Suárez and Blaney, donned in traditional luchador masks, entered the Lucha Libre ring. Living up to the spirit of Mexico’s revered sport, Suárez ascended the ropes and delivered a body slam to Blaney, igniting roaring cheers from the crowd. The video of their wrestling escapades, shared by NASCAR, has been making the rounds on social media, with fans expressing their disbelief and excitement.

The significance of the event was encapsulated perfectly by a fan’s comment, “Not everyone has the opportunity to step into the sacred ring of the Arena México, the cathedral of Lucha Libre.” The unexpected presence of NASCAR stars in such a legendary venue added to the awe of the moment.

Before they tested their wrestling skills, the Cup Series drivers toured the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. They inspected the course layout and observed the modifications NASCAR had made to the track since its last event in 2008. These changes have been specifically designed for stock car racing, gearing up for the first-ever international point race at the venue, scheduled for June.

As the only Mexican driver in the Cup Series, Suárez couldn’t contain his excitement about racing in his homeland. He reminisced about clinching his first NASCAR Mexico Series race at this very track, and expressed his joy over the return, likening it to welcoming everyone into his home. Blaney echoed this enthusiasm, stating that being there and seeing the preparations has amplified his anticipation for the upcoming race.

The blend of wrestling, traditional Mexican cuisine, and racing had social media abuzz. Some fans humorously suggested that the NASCAR stars should have made an appearance on WWE’s Monday Night Raw. Other fans indulged in fanciful match-ups, suggesting a fight set-up between Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., recalling their infamous scuffle at the 2024 All-Star event.

The visit to Mexico City, filled with unexpected appearances, has ignited the excitement of local fans. The upcoming race will mark NASCAR’s first points race outside the USA, posing a potential for more international events, provided the fan support remains strong.

An interesting takeaway from these promotional antics is the Driver Ambassador program, which rewards NASCAR drivers for their efforts in promoting the sport. The program offers bonuses based on a points system, with a national television appearance earning drivers four points per hour. The top performer stands to gain $1 million, and even the least performing driver takes home $7,500. Fans have cheekily attributed Suárez and Blaney’s theatrics to this program, but in the end, it’s a win-win situation for the drivers, offering them an additional source of revenue while representing the sport they love.
