A thrilling new chapter is being written in NASCAR’s history books, as a fierce rivalry sparks between Richard Childress Racing’s Jesse Love and fellow Xfinity Series racer Sheldon Creed. The animosity between these two, which came to a head during the 2025 Focused Health 250 at the Circuit of the Americas, has become the recent talk of the circuit, overshadowing even Connor Zilisch’s first victory of the season.
The fiery on-track exchanges between Love and Creed during Stage 2 of the race marked the beginning of an intense feud. Despite having no previous issues, the pair was involved in a heated encounter at COTA, with Love provoking Creed by nudging his car. In response, a visibly irritated Creed, a Californian native, pushed Love’s No. 2 Chevy into the gravel trap in a retaliatory move.
However, the drama didn’t end on the track. Following the race, a verbal sparring match ensued on social media. Creed, a Haas Factory Team driver, took to the platform to express his frustration, posting, “You play stupid games you win stupid prizes”, in reference to a video clip of their on-track clash. However, Love, the 20-year-old sophomore, had the upper hand, finishing sixth at COTA, six spots ahead of Creed. He responded with a snappy retort, “Score board buddy”, reminding Creed of their respective finishing positions.
The growing tension between the two drivers is palpable. Love, who is in his sophomore year in the Xfinity Series, has emerged as one of the most promising talents in the sport. On the other hand, Creed, despite only three full seasons under his belt, comes across as a grizzled veteran. The 27-year-old, who has finished as runner-up 13 times without clocking a win, understandably showed his frustration.
Love, who is known for his prowess in road course racing, had a point to prove at COTA, which demands aggressive competition due to its new configuration featuring the notorious ‘calamity corner’ Turn 4. The 20-year-old, determined to extend Richard Childress Racing’s winning streak, didn’t shy away from trading paint with the former No. 2 Chevy driver, a move that didn’t sit well with Creed. With the GOVX 200 in Phoenix on the horizon, it remains to be seen if the feud will continue.
Interestingly, Love seems to be ruffling more than just Creed’s feathers. Prior to the race at COTA, Love was involved in a near-miss with another Xfinity Series racer, Riley Herbst, during the qualifying rounds, a move that drew the ire of the Joe Gibbs Racing driver.
Both Love and Herbst were vying to clock the fastest lap on COTA’s revamped 2.3-mile, 20-turn National Course for the 2025 Focused Health 250. After Love’s aggressive move, Herbst retaliated by speeding past his rival, setting off a tense back-and-forth between the two, though no contact was made.
With Herbst finishing 31st at COTA and now shifting his focus to the Cup Series for 23XI Racing, Love may need to be on guard at Phoenix Raceway. After the contentious events at COTA, he may well be in Sheldon Creed’s crosshairs as the latter seeks retribution. The unfolding drama between these racers adds another layer of excitement to the upcoming races, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
