Fast-paced races and larger-than-life personalities have long been the common ground between Hollywood and NASCAR, with films like “Days of Thunder” (1990) and “Talladega Nights” (2006) capturing the adrenaline-fueled spirit of the sport. NASCAR champions such as Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jeff Gordon have lent authenticity to these silver screen depictions, and iconic tracks like Talladega and Daytona have served as dramatic backdrops.

Today, the fusion of the movie and racing worlds has become so seamless that you might find celebrities like Frankie Muniz Jr. gracing the NASCAR race tracks. But the real thrill lies in the romantic rumors that occasionally surface between these two star-studded industries.

Recently, Dale Earnhardt Jr., the legendary NASCAR driver, reminisced about his own brush with such a rumor from the past. His wife, Amy, was more than eager to chime in on the story.

The conversation started when NASCAR star William Byron laughed off rumors suggesting a romantic link with pop-star Sabrina Carpenter. The rumors sprouted after his victory at the Daytona 500 on February 16, 2025, when a parody Instagram account posted a doctored flirtatious comment supposedly from Byron on Carpenter’s photo.

Byron jokingly dismissed the rumors in a TMZ interview, saying, “They do a really good job with Photoshop nowadays.” He even invited Carpenter to a race, sparking a playful exchange between Dale Jr. and his wife, Amy.

The couple revisited a peculiar incident from their early dating days involving pop diva Jessica Simpson. On their podcast, “Bless Your Hardt,” Amy recalled how Simpson had once mentioned dreaming about marrying Dale Jr. in a treehouse during a media interview before her Daytona 500 performance.

Dale Jr.’s response to the revelation was a bemused “How weird.” Amy confessed to feeling a twinge of jealousy, but the couple laughed it off. Dale Jr. expressed no desire to “mess with that.”

In 2008, Jessica Simpson had given a nod to Dale Jr. during her performance at Lowes Motor Speedway, but both celebrities have since moved on. Dale Jr. is now happily married to Amy and is a proud dad to two daughters, Isla Rose and Nicole Lorraine.

But there’s more to Dale Jr.’s tryst with fame. Thanks to his father, Dale Sr., he’s quite accustomed to rubbing shoulders with celebrities. However, his interaction with a renowned American figure is truly a tale for the ages.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. recounted an unforgettable call he received from former President George W. Bush after his 2004 Daytona 500 win. The NASCAR legend shared on his “Dale Jr. Download” podcast how his casual demeanor had taken Bush by surprise.

Earnhardt described Bush as “just one of the guys” and didn’t hesitate to take the President’s call mid-interview. Bush appreciated Earnhardt’s nonchalant attitude, praising him for being an “awesome American.”

Amy drew a comparison between the approachable Bush and a familiar uncle, reinforcing Earnhardt’s casual approach to fame.

This wasn’t the first time a president had attended a NASCAR event. George H.W. Bush had made an appearance at the 1992 Pepsi 400. But Earnhardt’s laid-back reaction to the presidential call made it a standout moment, demonstrating how relatability and racing often intersect in the world of NASCAR.
