The MotoGP announced that the Kazakhstan Grand Prix has been postponed to a later date in 2024 due to severe flooding in Central Asia. The floods have caused a national emergency in Kazakhstan, with over 40,000 people displaced, according to reports. This is said to be the worst case of flooding in the region in 80 years. The Sokol International Circuit, which was scheduled to host the eighth round of the 2024 MotoGP season from June 14 to 16, will no longer be able to hold the event on the previously announced dates. The new date for the race is currently unknown. This is not the first time that Kazakhstan’s place on the MotoGP calendar has been affected. The Sokol International Circuit was supposed to make its debut in the GP in 2023, but the venue was not ready in time and the event was postponed to the following year. In June of this year, the Italian GP at Mugello will take place from May 31 to June 2, followed by the Mugello test on June 3 and the Dutch TT at Assen from June 28 to 30. The FIM, Dorna, and IRTA have issued a joint statement acknowledging the unprecedented weather conditions and expressing their support for those affected by the floods in Central Asia. The MotoGP’s priority is not to add any additional burden to the authorities or services as they work to help those affected by the floods. The Sokol International Circuit will not host the MotoGP on the previously announced dates and further updates will be provided once confirmed. The MotoGP extends its condolences and support to the people of Kazakhstan and hopes for a quick recovery for the nation and the affected communities.
