More than 17 thousand drivers were caught speeding during the “Travel without haste” campaign, which took place between June 5 and 11 and involved the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), the National Republican Guard (GNR), and the Public Security Police (PSP).
The campaign, organized by ANSR, GNR, and PSP, monitored “4.9 million vehicles, 4.7 million of which were monitored by the National Road Safety Authority’s National Speed Control System (SINCRO),” the statement said.
In a statement, the authorities clarify that “17.8 thousand drivers were speeding, of which 4 thousand were detected by the Security Forces radars and 13.9 thousand by ANSR’s radars.”
ANSR also states that during the campaign period, “a total of 2510 accidents were recorded, resulting in 2 fatalities, 42 serious injuries, and 749 minor injuries.”
Regarding the same period in 2023, “there were 186 fewer accidents, 12 fewer fatalities, 7 fewer serious injuries, and 64 fewer minor injuries,” the ANSR statement adds.
The joint statement from ANSR, GNR, and PSP explains that during the campaign period, which aimed to alert drivers and passengers to the danger of speeding, 442 drivers and passengers were sensitized, to whom messages such as “Speed is the main cause of one-third of all fatal accidents” and “On a 10-kilometer (km) journey, traveling at 45 km/hour or 50 km/hour only saves 1 minute and 20 seconds. Travel without haste” were conveyed.
