Montoya: Leclerc Must Play It Smart to Keep Ferrari’s Support Over Hamilton

Charles Leclerc vows to dethrone Verstappen as Hamilton rivalry ignites fiery Ferrari battle: “I’m ready to be Formula 1 World Champion”

With Lewis Hamilton’s high-profile switch to Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season, all eyes are on Maranello to see how the new teammate dynamic unfolds. Can Charles Leclerc maintain his standing as Ferrari’s lead driver?

According to former F1 star Juan Pablo Montoya, Leclerc has a golden opportunity to keep Ferrari’s support—if he plays his cards right.

Hamilton, chasing an unprecedented eighth World Championship, will undoubtedly try to rally the team around him. But Montoya believes Leclerc can secure Ferrari’s backing by outperforming Hamilton consistently—without creating internal conflict.

🗣️ “If Leclerc behaves intelligently—never hindering Hamilton, but constantly staying ahead of him—then everyone at Ferrari will support Leclerc.”

🏎️ Ferrari’s Pecking Order: Who Will Come Out on Top?

Hamilton arrives at 40 years old, while Leclerc, at 27, represents the Scuderia’s long-term future. Montoya sees this as a key factor.

🔴 Montoya’s Breakdown:
✅ Hamilton’s success depends on two things:

  • How comfortable he feels in the Ferrari
  • The overall quality of the 2025 car

✅ Leclerc has the advantage of longevity

  • If he outpaces Hamilton without drama, Ferrari will naturally favor him
  • Hamilton won’t stay at Ferrari forever, while Leclerc could be the future

🗣️ “Hamilton will not stay at Ferrari forever, and in any case, things will go well for Leclerc. It will be important to retain Ferrari’s support until that day comes.”

🏆 Can Leclerc Keep Hamilton From Taking Over?

Hamilton’s reputation, experience, and leadership will make him a natural contender for Ferrari’s internal No. 1 spot. But Leclerc knows Ferrari inside-out after six seasons and has proven his pace against top-tier teammates like Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.

🚨 Key Question: If Ferrari builds a title-winning car, will they back Leclerc—or hand the keys to Hamilton?

🏁 First Test: The 2025 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

One thing’s for sure: Leclerc must establish himself early if he doesn’t want to get overshadowed. Let the Ferrari battle begin! 🍿
