FIA Drops the Hammer: Drivers Face Disqualification at Monaco Grand Prix for Breaking New Tire Rules

In a shocking turn of events, the FIA has laid down the law for F1 teams participating in the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, introducing strict penalties for those who dare to defy the new tire regulations. The World Motor Sport Council has mandated that all 20 drivers must make two mandatory pit stops during the 2025 race at the prestigious Circuit de Monaco in a bold move aimed at ramping up the excitement levels of the event.

According to Article 30.5 m) of the Sporting Regulations, any driver who fails to comply with the two-stop requirement will face disqualification, unless the race is unable to be restarted after a suspension. The rule further stipulates that a 30-second penalty will be added to the elapsed time of drivers who do not adhere to the tire specifications during the race, ensuring strict enforcement of the new regulations.

The iconic Monaco Grand Prix has long been criticized for its lack of on-track action due to the narrow street circuit making overtaking nearly impossible. The 2025 edition saw drivers grappling with heavy traffic during practice sessions, with incidents like Charles Leclerc colliding with Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin further highlighting the challenges posed by the circuit.

Despite the criticisms, the Monaco Grand Prix has inked a new six-year deal with Formula 1, securing its presence on the calendar until 2031. The introduction of mandatory two pit stops is seen as a pivotal move by F1 to inject more unpredictability and excitement into the race, with the success of this initiative being crucial for the longevity and appeal of the Monaco Grand Prix.

As teams and drivers gear up for the high-stakes race in Monte Carlo, all eyes will be on how they navigate the stringent new regulations and whether the FIA’s crackdown will lead to a truly thrilling spectacle on the streets of Monaco.
