Monaco Grand Prix Drama: Bortoleto Blames Antonelli for First Lap Crash

The Monaco Grand Prix unfolded with intense drama as Sauber faced another disappointing race with both Nico Hülkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto missing out on points once again. Bortoleto, who finished 14th after a collision with Antonelli, expressed his frustration at the outcome.

In a post-race statement, Bortoleto criticized Antonelli’s aggressive maneuver at Portier on the first lap, stating, “He went a bit wide and, to avoid a collision with him, I ended up hitting the wall, destroying the front wing and compromising my race.” The young Brazilian driver highlighted the challenges of overtaking on the narrow Monaco circuit and lamented the lack of tire degradation that would have spiced up the race.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, Bortoleto emphasized the need to focus on car setup and performance to secure better qualifying positions in the future. With eyes set on consistently making it to Q2 and occasionally challenging for Q3, Bortoleto remains hopeful for improved results in upcoming races.

Additionally, the mandatory double pit stops rule didn’t sit well with both Bortoleto and Hülkenberg, who finished 16th. Hülkenberg expressed disappointment at being stuck in traffic throughout the race, attributing it to teams ahead implementing strategic gameplay. Despite well-executed pit stops, the duo found themselves unable to break free from the midfield battles, leaving them with unsatisfactory results.

As Sauber navigates through challenges on the track, the team remains determined to optimize their strategies and performance to break into the points-scoring positions in the fiercely competitive Formula 1 season.
