Jaguar Roars to Life: Mitch Evans Dominates the Rain-Soaked Miami Formula E Race
In a thrilling spectacle that electrified fans, Mitch Evans of Jaguar unleashed a stunning performance in the rain-affected Formula E race in Miami, marking the start of the 2025-26 season on a high note. The race, held at the Miami International Autodrome—a shorter variant of the renowned Formula 1 circuit—was a dramatic affair from the get-go, with rain wreaking havoc just 45 minutes before the green light.
Despite the downpour lifting just before the race commenced, officials opted for a cautious approach, leading the field to complete the opening four laps behind the safety car. Once the green flag waved, it was Porsche’s Nico Mueller, starting from pole position, who stormed into the lead at Turn 1. But it was the rookie Felipe Drugovich, driving for the customer Andretti-run Porsche team, who seized the spotlight, taking the lead just moments later by opting for attack mode.
As the race unfolded, an intense battle for supremacy ensued among the leading pack, which included the likes of Nyck de Vries (Mahindra), Joel Eriksson (Envision-Jaguar), and Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche). Jaguar’s dynamic duo, Evans and Antonio Felix da Costa, were quick to join the fray, strategically using their attack modes to break into the top positions.
However, da Costa’s fortunes took a sharp downturn when he was aggressively collided into by Drugovich, who misjudged his braking. The incident resulted in a broken front wing for Drugovich and a trip to the pits for him, while da Costa, though able to continue, fell dramatically down the order to finish in eighth place after further contact with Edoardo Mortara of Mahindra left him reeling.
Meanwhile, Evans was on a relentless charge. After deftly maneuvering his way into third place, he executed a brilliant switchback move on lap 27, overtaking Mueller and solidifying his position. Though Mueller attempted to close the gap in the latter stages, he could not keep up with Evans, who clinched victory by a convincing margin of 3.151 seconds— a triumphant turnaround after a dismal start to the season that included a retirement in São Paulo and an 11th-place finish in Mexico.
Behind Evans and Mueller, Wehrlein secured a commendable third place, strategically utilizing his attack mode to finally break past the resilient defense of de Vries, who clung to fifth position despite struggling with energy levels in the closing laps. Eriksson delivered a remarkable performance, achieving a career-best fourth place, while Sebastien Buemi surged from the back of the grid to snatch seventh, showcasing his skill by passing da Costa in the final moments of the race.
As the dust settled in Miami, the only full rookie, Pepe Marti of Cupra Kiro-Porsche, celebrated his second consecutive points finish. In stark contrast, defending champion Oliver Rowland could only manage a disappointing 12th place, and points leader Nick Cassidy faced a nightmare race, finishing lapped in 16th after starting in the top seven.
With this electrifying victory, Mitch Evans and Jaguar have officially ignited their 2025-26 campaign, leaving an indelible mark on the Miami race and setting the stage for a thrilling season ahead. Fans and competitors alike will undoubtedly be watching closely as the action heats up in the coming races, eager to see if Evans can maintain this momentum and lead Jaguar to further glory.
