Mitch Evans, from Jaguar TCS Racing, secured his first pole position in the FIA Formula E this season, in the opening race of the double Misano E-Prix event this weekend. Evans, who excelled in Group A, delivered a remarkable performance during the qualifying session. With Vergne impressing throughout the weekend, the two-time champion showcased his skills in Group A, finishing nearly two tenths of a second ahead of Wehrlein, with Rowland in third place. Notable absences in the group were Vandoorne and da Costa.
In Group B, Hughes showed composure leading the group, with Evans close behind. Sam Bird secured third place, while Müller finished fourth. Unfortunately, Cassidy was sidelined from the duels after an accident in FP2. Both Andrettis, Dennis and Nato, failed to advance to the next stage.
During the duels, Rowland’s chances were hampered by going off track, resulting in his elimination. Wehrlein secured his spot in the semifinals with a clean lap, a tenth faster than his competitor. Günther’s lap was compromised by going off track, allowing Vergne to easily move on to the next stage. Evans defeated Bird in the third duel, showcasing an impressive performance. Hughes set an excellent time in the final duel, beating Müller by three tenths.
In the semifinals, Vergne defeated Wehrlein by a tenth, confirming his strong performance during practice. In the second semifinal, Evans advanced after Hughes’ race was interrupted by hitting a curb. In the final, Evans delivered his best performance, securing pole position by a tenth faster than Vergne. However, Evans acknowledged that the nature of the race means that pole position is not the ultimate determinant of success, as he plans to strategically pace the field for an exciting finish in the closing laps.
