Reigning DTM Champion Mirko Bortolotti Makes Shocking Move to Abt Team
In a surprising turn of events, Mirko Bortolotti, the reigning DTM champion, has made a bold switch to the Abt team for the 2025 season. After securing the title last year, Bortolotti decided to leave his longtime partner Audi for Lamborghini cars, impressing the Abt team with his dedication and skills right from the start.
Sporting director Martin Tomczyk, a former DTM champion himself, praised Bortolotti’s work ethic, stating, “What he does, he does 100 per cent. He is incredibly demanding with himself.” Tomczyk highlighted Bortolotti’s meticulous approach to testing and feedback, emphasizing the Italian racer’s exceptional attention to detail.
Bortolotti’s qualifying record speaks for itself, with an impressive 10 top-three results out of 16 in 2024. Transitioning to Abt after two years at SSR Performance, Bortolotti expressed his positive outlook on the new partnership, noting the team’s expertise with the Lamborghini Huracan.
The 35-year-old driver commended Abt for their deep understanding of the car, stating, “Right from the start, the guys gave me the feeling that they really are veterans who know the car inside out.” Bortolotti also emphasized the collaborative atmosphere within the team, highlighting the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience.
Reflecting on his move back to the Red Bull family with the Austrian energy drink company sponsoring the Abt outfit, Bortolotti acknowledged the significance of the transition while keeping his focus on the upcoming challenges.
