In 2022, Mini did present a convertible version of the 100% electric Cooper that was intended for production. However, this variant now seems to have been set aside.
According to “BMW Blog,” the plans for the production of the Mini Cooper SE Convertible at the Oxford factory in the UK in 2027 have been suspended.
The reason for this decision, according to the same source, lies in a combination of factors, including a decline in global demand for electric models, as well as increasing pressure to maximize profits on entry-level electric models like the Cooper.
Furthermore, the rise of Chinese manufacturers of 100% electric models, such as BYD, has significantly impacted the market, forcing established premium builders to adapt quickly and efficiently.
Despite canceling the project for the production of the Mini Cooper SE Convertible, the British brand will continue to offer a version for “driving with the wind in your hair” with a combustion engine, which will receive a facelifted version in 2025.
