MIKE TROUT PRIMED FOR COMEBACK SEASON AFTER SURGERY
Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout is undeniably the greatest player of his generation and one of the all-time greats in baseball history. With his incredible career numbers and still being in his prime at 32 years old, fans are hopeful that his decline will be gradual rather than sudden.
Trout recently underwent surgery to repair a hamate bone injury in his left hand in 2023. However, he is expected to be fully healthy and ready for spring training in 2024. This will be crucial for his upcoming quest.
Among all active players in MLB, only one has a higher slugging percentage than Trout: Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees. Codify Baseball tweeted, “MLB active career leaders in slugging percentage (3,000+ plate appearances): #1 – Aaron Judge, .586 #2 – Mike Trout, .582.” These two sluggers are considered generational talents, with Trout at 32 and Judge at 31. Both players are physically fit and ready to dominate in 2024.
The question on everyone’s mind is whether Trout can reclaim the top spot with a strong campaign this year. In his injury-plagued 2023 season, Trout’s numbers were slightly lower than his usual pace, slashing .263/.367/.490 with an .858 OPS. However, prior to that, he consistently maintained an OPS above .900 and often flirted with the 1.000 mark for 11 straight seasons.
If Trout’s wrist is fully healed, there is optimism that he will return to his dominant form. However, overtaking Judge and securing the top spot will depend on both Trout’s performance and that of the Yankees star.
