Aston Martin Formula 1 boss Mike Krack hailed the recent unveiling of Adrian Newey as a major win for the team, despite criticism from Red Bull’s Christian Horner. The announcement of Newey as Managing Technical Partner at Aston Martin, held during a press event at Silverstone, was received enthusiastically by team members and the media alike.
While Horner dismissed the celebration as “premature” given that Newey remains under contract with Red Bull until his gardening leave concludes in March, Krack was quick to disagree. The Aston Martin Team Principal embraced the excitement, labeling the occasion as a boost for the entire team.
“It was a fantastic moment,” Krack said, according to RacingNews365. “The event energized the factory and campus, and it brought extra attention from the media, which is great for the team and the brand. It really gave us a positive lift.”
Once the event concluded, Krack emphasized that the team immediately returned to work, focusing on the challenges ahead. He acknowledged that the Newey announcement brought added motivation, but made it clear that Aston Martin’s focus remained on performance, especially as the team prepared for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The impact was evident, as Fernando Alonso’s performance at Baku, where he secured sixth place, underscored the team’s momentum. Krack praised Alonso’s strong race, pointing out the one-stop strategy that maximized Aston Martin’s return of eight valuable points.
“We came away with more points than we expected, which was a fantastic result on such a tricky street circuit,” Krack said, also noting that the focus now shifts to the upcoming Singapore GP. Aston Martin hopes to build on its success with another strong performance on a similarly demanding track.
Despite the ongoing criticism from Red Bull, Krack remains upbeat and confident in the decision to bring Newey on board, underscoring the importance of maintaining focus as the season progresses.
