In a shocking turn of events, George Russell has unleashed a scathing criticism of his own Mercedes team, labeling them as “dead slow” following a disappointing performance at the F1 Imola Grand Prix.

Despite managing to secure a seventh-place finish, Russell expressed his frustration, indicating that Mercedes was fortunate to even achieve that position. He pointed out that the team’s struggle with high temperatures has been an ongoing issue, severely impacting their competitiveness on the track.

Russell didn’t hold back in his assessment, stating, “When it’s hot, we’re slow. When it’s cold, we’re quick. The trends are crystal clear.” This concerning pattern has plagued Mercedes since last season, with Russell lamenting the team’s inability to address the underlying problems within the car.

The young driver revealed that he noticed issues with the car even before the race began during his reconnaissance lap, but despite his alerts, the engineers couldn’t pinpoint the exact cause of the performance issues. Russell highlighted the team’s ongoing struggle with overheating tires, a problem that seems to persist from one circuit to another.

With Mercedes finding themselves outpaced by rivals like Ferrari and even Williams on some occasions, Russell’s blunt assessment sheds light on the underlying challenges the team is facing. Despite their best efforts to optimize the car’s setup, it seems that a more fundamental issue is at play, hindering their performance when temperatures rise.

As Russell and Mercedes grapple with these setbacks, it remains to be seen how they will regroup and strategize for the upcoming races. The pressure is mounting for the powerhouse team to address these performance issues swiftly if they aim to reclaim their dominance on the F1 circuit.
