Mercedes Launches Intensive Probe into George Russell’s W16 Car Issues

Mercedes is leaving no stone unturned as they delve into George Russell’s complaints about his W16 car following a disappointing performance at the Emilia Romagna GP. The trackside engineering director, Andrew Shovlin, has vowed to conduct a comprehensive investigation to uncover the root cause of Russell’s struggles.

Russell expressed his frustration after plummeting from third on the grid to seventh at the finish line, labeling his race as “absolutely terrible from start to finish.” The young driver even likened the behavior of his car to a “forklift truck,” highlighting the severity of the issues he faced during the race.

Shovlin revealed that despite initial checks not revealing any obvious problems with the car, Mercedes is taking a meticulous approach to analyze every component thoroughly. The team is set to scrutinize the W16 car ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix to ensure that any underlying issues are identified and rectified promptly.

During the post-race debrief, Shovlin emphasized the team’s commitment to resolving Russell’s concerns, stating, “We’ve now got the car and all the parts in Monaco. There’s a good program there to check through the bits, to scan what we need to, to see that nothing has a delamination or something.”

Russell’s dissatisfaction with his performance at Imola was evident as he described the race as a mere 1/10, highlighting the extent of his disappointment. He recounted the challenges he faced, mentioning a problem he reported even before the race began, which persisted throughout the event.

As Mercedes gears up for the upcoming race in Monte Carlo, all eyes will be on the team as they strive to address Russell’s car issues and ensure that he can deliver a competitive performance on the demanding streets of Monaco. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Mercedes works tirelessly to fine-tune the W16 car for optimal performance on the track.
