Mercedes F1 Team Launches Intensive Investigation into George Russell’s Car After Imola Nightmare

In a shocking turn of events, Mercedes has announced a thorough inspection of George Russell’s W16 car following the disastrous Imola race, where the British driver described his performance as “totally miserable.”

Despite an impressive start to the 2025 Formula 1 season, Russell faced a nightmare at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, plummeting to seventh place from the second row on the grid. Throughout the race, Russell struggled with handling issues, with concerns about the car’s stability at the rear persisting.

Mercedes’ Trackside Engineering Director, Andrew Shovlin, revealed the team’s plan to delve deep into the anomaly ahead of the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix weekend. Shovlin emphasized the importance of investigating Russell’s complaints, stating, “All we can do on the grid is get the bodywork off, have a quick look, check there’s nothing obvious… We’ll check that everything’s done up as it should be and make sure if there is any issue, we can solve it ahead of Monaco itself.”

George Russell expressed his frustration with the Imola race, rating it as a dismal ‘1/10’ and deeming it “absolutely terrible.” He highlighted the ongoing car problem that hindered his performance, stating, “It felt like the rear of the car was moving independently; you steer the front tyres, and it felt like something was broken at the back because the rear was swaying… It felt like a forklift truck – not what you need at a track like this.”

With Mercedes set to conduct a comprehensive inspection of Russell’s car components in Monaco, all eyes are on the team to resolve the mysterious issues that plagued the talented driver at Imola. Will this investigation uncover the root cause of Russell’s woes and pave the way for a triumphant comeback at the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix? Stay tuned for updates on this gripping Formula 1 saga.
