Mercedes-Benz will unveil a prototype of a luxury van next spring, which will be part of the next generation of electric vans from the German brand, based on the exclusive modular platform for electric vehicles, Van.EA.
The new luxury van is set to launch in 2026, and all signs indicate that it will be added to the V-Class range. The German brand has already announced that the first prototypes are undergoing dynamic testing on public roads, marking a significant step towards reinventing the Mercedes van lineup.
Regarding the installed technologies, the new vans will meet a wide variety of customer requirements. Whether they have front-wheel drive or 4×4, all vehicles will be equipped with the latest version of the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), as well as an 800-volt charging system and a 22 kW AC charger.
A Mercedes reminded that the new Van.EA platform will allow for greater differentiation between luxury models and commercial variants. For the new luxury van, it is expected that the new model will feature similar resources to those that Mercedes offers in its passenger cars, including the brand’s autonomous driving technology.
After a long journey from Stuttgart to the North Cape in early June 2024 with a specially built vehicle to test the chassis, electric motor, battery, and high-voltage components, the current tests are focused on the interaction of all vehicle components. Additionally, the prototypes will soon be tested in the extreme cold of Sweden, before the new luxury van from Mercedes is unveiled next spring.
