MERCEDES G-CLASS GETS MAYBACH TREATMENT

MERCEDES G-CLASS GETS MAYBACH TREATMENT

Is that not enough to quench your three-pointed star off-roading thirst? How about a 6×6? Technically speaking, the Stuttgart company does not offer a six-wheel drive variant of the latest G-Wagen, but this is where tuners come in, turning this otherwise posh 4×4 into an apocalyptic-looking machine.

Despite looking pretty much like its predecessor, the latest G-Wagen uses new nuts and bolts, comes with modern firepower, and boosts the appeal inside with multiple technology and comfort features. It is one versatile proposal that won’t embarrass you at a former dinner party and will also look at home parked next to the local basketball field.

It may seem like it has ’em all, but it doesn’t. In fact, it’s not available in a truly luxurious trim level that would swap the Benz/AMG with Maybach’s logos. Rumors have spoken of such a version several times now, especially since the G 650 Landaulet sent off the old G-Class, yet it is clear that Mercedes does not intend to give it the Maybach treatment.

Nevertheless, just because it won’t happen doesn’t mean it cannot exist in the virtual world. Inspired by the S 680 by Virgil Abloh, this Mercedes-Maybach G-Class came from emrehusmen on Instagram earlier in the week, and it is an exciting proposal.

It boasts the typical Maybach grille between the round headlamps and features a unique emblem on the hood. It has fender flares, beefed-up side skirts, reworked bumpers, and a roof-mounted spoiler that looks out of place. A spare wheel holder is still attached to the tailgate, and at the rear, we can see the Maybach logo next to the left taillamp and the G 900 one on the other side.

No real Maybach would be complete without a bi-tone paint job, and this one mixes black on the upper parts of the body with beige. It also has a set of disc-like wheels that are on the oversized side of things, wrapped in rubberband tires that would leave their mark on the comfort. The side-mounted exhaust tips, similar to the ones of the AMG G 63, contribute to the special stance.

In an ideal world, a hypothetical Mercedes-Maybach G 900 would pack a V12 engine under the hood. However, a punchy version of the ubiquitous bi-turbo V8 would also cut it just well, and we’re seriously wondering why the automaker hasn’t given it the more luxurious treatment. Who knows, maybe they will. After all, there wouldn’t be anything wrong with it, would it?
