Lewis Hamilton Reflects on Mercedes’ Struggles, Personal Growth as a Teammate Ahead of Ferrari Move

Lewis Hamilton has been partnered with George Russell at Mercedes since 2022, a period that has tested both his patience and resilience. As Mercedes faced significant challenges following the 2022 regulation changes, Hamilton experienced his first winless season in Formula 1, a streak that extended into the next year. However, the 2024 season has marked a turnaround for the team, with Hamilton securing emotional victories at Silverstone and Belgium.

In a recent interview, Hamilton revealed that the difficult times Mercedes endured taught him valuable lessons in teamwork and communication. “It’s not how you fall; it’s how you get up,” Hamilton told Esquire. He acknowledged that the struggles of the past few seasons forced him to become a better teammate, focusing on improving communication within the team.

The seven-time world champion admitted that during Mercedes’ barren run, there were moments when he doubted whether he would ever win a race again. This uncertainty, he explained, became “a battle of the mind.” However, Hamilton emphasized that persistence and dedication eventually paid off, leading to the team’s resurgence in 2024.

As Hamilton prepares to leave Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025, he expressed pride in the team’s recovery and the work he and Russell have done together. Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Mercedes, Hamilton shared his satisfaction with how the team has navigated through difficult times, staying true to their values. With 10 races left in his final season with Mercedes, Hamilton is focused on adding more victories to his illustrious career.

Hamilton’s journey over the past few seasons has been marked by both personal and professional growth. His ability to adapt and learn from adversity has not only strengthened his bond with his team but also reaffirmed his place as one of the sport’s most resilient and dedicated drivers.
