Mercedes-Benz will only put an end to the production of the A-Class in 2028, two years later than initially planned.
According to the German “Automobilwoche,” which cites sources close to the German automaker, the entry-level model may survive for a few more years, considering the strong demand for the A-Class, especially in Europe, and a revision of the electric strategy that could extend the production of the model until 2028.
The production director of Mercedes, Jörg Burzer, confirmed to the publication the extension of the A-Class production, without specifying, however, a date. “The compact A-Class sedan continues to enjoy great popularity among customers, especially in Europe,” said Burzer.
Thus, the A-Class will continue to be produced even after the arrival of the new 100% electric CLA. However, according to the report, a new edition of the A-Class is not planned for after 2028. In this way, Mercedes maintains the goal of reducing the compact segment from seven to four models.
It is worth remembering that Mercedes announced earlier this year that it will review the goal of selling exclusively electric vehicles in key markets by 2030 and, in this sense, will continue to update its combustion engine range until the next decade.
