Mercedes has left Formula E after the 2021/2022 season, winning two driver and team titles. Now, they may be preparing their return, but in partnership with Mahindra through their AMG High Performance Powertrains division.
The website the-race.com writes that the two parties have already held discussions. The Indian manufacturer is currently in a partnership with the ZF Group for the supply of some technical components. It is a similar agreement that they are now seeking with Mercedes AMG HPP – whose facilities are relatively close to Mahindra’s.
In a potential collaboration, the German manufacturer could once again see its name involved, in addition to utilizing its expertise and leveraging knowledge acquired without the expenses that come with its own project. The partnership could be in the field of engineering and design of future Mahindra power units in Formula E and their respective components – potentially starting in 2025 with the second phase of the Gen3 cars.
Interestingly, Mahindra is going through a certain restructuring process, in which one of the newly hired members is Tony Ross as a technical consultant – having previously worked for Mercedes in Formula 1 between 2011 and 2018 and could be essential in an agreement with the manufacturer.
