Mercedes-Benz vai estrear volante estilo Yoke em 2026

Mercedes-Benz is working on a new electronic steering system (steer-by-wire) that will be introduced in production vehicles in 2026, accompanied by a Yoke-style steering wheel.

In this way, the German brand will join Tesla, General Motors, Geely, Toyota, and Lexus, which already have this new steering system that replaces the traditional mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. Instead, the driver’s steering inputs are transmitted quickly and directly through an electric cable, meaning “by wire.”

Although Mercedes has not revealed which model will debut this new steering system, the brand has shown a camouflaged prototype of the new EQS that is expected to hit the market next year, and indications suggest that it will be equipped with the new steer-by-wire system.

The German brand revealed that the new system offers a completely new steering sensation, providing an unparalleled experience for the driver, with a wide range of advantages for daily driving, making maneuvers and parking even easier, as the electronic steering further reduces the effort required by eliminating the need for the driver to grip the steering wheel again.

Moreover, the steer-by-wire system offers even more responsive handling on open roads and greater agility in urban environments, while also freeing up space in the cabin, making it easier to enter and exit the vehicle, all while allowing an unobstructed view of the digital instrument panel.

“The Steer-by-wire system is another significant step towards the mobility of the future, and we are proud to launch this system in 2026. The technology provides a unique experience for the customer that goes far beyond mere driving. In combination with conditional level 3 automated driving, it will offer an even more immersive entertainment experience in the medium term,” said Markus Schäfer, member of the Management Board of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
