Mercedes-Benz is preparing to move away from the EQ designation, used to identify 100% electric, plug-in hybrid, and mild-hybrid models, and is set to return to using the more traditional names from its lineup.
In this way, in the future, Mercedes will no longer have a Class S and an EQS, but will adopt the Class S name for both the thermal model and the 100% electric version. The two vehicles will be much more similar in terms of appearance.

The new organization of the lineup will later be extended to other models, meaning there will also no longer be a Class E and EQE; instead, this model will simply be called Class E with different types of powertrains, as well as different platforms. The thermal models will be based on the already in-use MRA architecture in an evolved version, while the electric models will utilize the future MB-EA Large platform.

On the other hand, the SUV lineup will follow the same path, with the GLS, GLE, and the other models keeping the same designation, whether they are 100% electric or equipped with thermal engines.
