Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch the VLE, the first model of the new range of electric vans that will hit the market in 2026.

Based on Mercedes’ new Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA) platform, the new model is expected to replace the V-Class and be a more luxurious version of the next generation Vito.

The company has not revealed much about the new van, but the VLE features a fully closed grille, flanked by large headlights. Additionally, there is a generous lower air intake and a short hood.

Note also the imposing windshield that merges into a gently sloping roof. The designers have also given the model a body with flat sides and retractable door handles. This is complemented by a surprisingly compact exterior area, as the beltline is significantly higher than that of the V-Class.

Although Mercedes does not reveal many details, the German company confirmed that two prototypes covered 1,090 km between Stuttgart, Germany, and Rome, Italy, with only two 15-minute stops to charge the batteries.

The trip included “winding and steep passages through the Alps, many kilometers of highway, passages through busy rural roads and narrow urban streets”; for the latter, the VLE benefited from having rear axle steering, which allowed for greater ease of driving in the city and on more winding roads.

“Our future MPVs have once again impressively demonstrated their suitability for daily use on long-distance trips. With just two short stops for battery charging, the Mercedes-Benz VLE showcased the impressive efficiency of the new Electric Architecture for Vans.”, said Andreas Zygan, head of development at Mercedes-Benz Vans.
