Mercedes-Benz announced that it sold 568,400 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024, which represents a 6% year-on-year decline due to model changes in Asia and supply chain disruptions.
In a statement, the German company revealed that sales dropped 8% to 463,000 units of passenger cars, while sales of vans increased by 7% to 105,400 light commercial vehicles.
Furthermore, the company sold 9% fewer electric vehicles, totaling 50,500 units, of which 47,500 were passenger cars (-8%).
Overall, electric vehicles accounted for 10% of total sales in the Mercedes-Benz Cars division in the first quarter, and 19% including plug-in hybrid models.
By markets, Mercedes-Benz car sales decreased in the first three months of the year in Asia (-15%), Europe (-2%), and North America (-1%), but increased by 7% in the rest of the world.
Transactions of high-end vehicles dropped by 27% to 66,600 units, while deliveries in the core area of the brand – which includes all derivatives of the C-Class and E-Class, the EQC, EQE, and EQE SUV – increased by 8% to 267,700 units.
On the other hand, sales of vehicles in the entry segment – all derivatives of the A-Class and B-Class EQA, EQB including the ‘smart’ – fell by 21% to 12,800 vehicles.
Regarding the range of vans, Mercedes-Benz sold more in all the markets where it operates during the first quarter, growing by 24% in Asia, 20% in North America, and 2% in Europe.
The German brand also revealed that the availability of top-of-the-range products was limited during the first quarter, mainly due to model changes in the G-Class and the derivatives of the E-Class and GLC from Mercedes-AMG, as well as constraints in the supply chain.
It is worth remembering that throughout this year, Mercedes-Benz will introduce twelve top-of-the-range models, including eight Mercedes-AMG models and the world premiere of the electric G-Class. The EQS limousine will undergo a major update with an extension of the range to over 800 km. The S-Class remains the undisputed leader in its segment in all major regions.
