Automóveis da Mercedes-Benz passam a oferecer nova funcionalidade na Europa

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that 15 models of the brand will now offer the Lane Change Assist function to overtake a vehicle, a system that will be available in 33 European countries.

The models that will have this new feature are the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, CLE, EQE, EQS, as well as the EQS SUV and EQE SUV, which can now be equipped with the new functionality, either directly from the factory or through an over-the-air update.

The Lane Change Assist function works automatically when the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is activated. The radar sensors and cameras installed in Mercedes models constantly monitor the surroundings of the vehicle in order to overtake slower cars on the highway or expressway and then return to the original lane. In addition, the function can also initiate an automatic lane change to maneuver the vehicle towards relevant highway or expressway exits when route guidance is active.

Mercedes-Benz has already introduced this function in North America in 2023. In China, there is also a version of the system developed by Mercedes-Benz China. The German brand reminds that specific market versions are adapted to regional traffic conditions and respective legal requirements, therefore differing in certain details.

In Europe, the Lane Change Assist function is active within a speed range of 80 to 140 km/h, provided that the navigation system recognizes that you are traveling on a suitable motorway or expressway – the road must have at least two separate lanes, for example. In addition, the lane markings must be detected by the vehicle’s cameras and there must be sufficient free space. The Lane Change Assist function is a Level 2 system, which means that the driver remains responsible for driving the vehicle at all times.
