Valtteri Bottas, the former Mercedes driver turned reserve driver, has recently revealed one interesting fact about his life off the track. While he spent his off-season frolicking with sea lions and dolphins in South Australia, there is one activity he is “banned” from doing by Mercedes – free climbing. However, this prohibition doesn’t seem to bother Bottas as he lacks interest in the extreme sport.

Bottas, who contributed to Mercedes’ Constructors’ Championship wins during his five seasons with the team, made a move to Alfa Romeo/Sauber in 2022. But after his final season with Alfa Romeo in 2024, he returned to Mercedes as their reserve driver for the 2025 season, taking over from Mick Schumacher. This shift allowed Bottas to have a rare off-season where he wasn’t gearing up for the upcoming racing campaign, leading him to explore activities like swimming with sea lions and dolphins.

Despite the relaxation and thrill of his off-season adventures, Bottas faces uncertainty about his future in Formula 1. With six rookies joining the F1 2025 grid, competition for a race seat has intensified, posing a challenge for experienced drivers like Bottas. However, the upcoming F1 2026 season brings a glimmer of hope as two new seats will be available with the entry of Cadillac F1 into the competition.

Bottas remains optimistic about his chances of returning to the grid in 2026, especially with the potential opportunity at Cadillac F1. While he acknowledges the tough competition, he sees his experience as a valuable asset in navigating a potential comeback. Despite not considering it an easy path, Bottas is open to exploring the option and is keen to see how the season unfolds.

Moreover, Bottas expressed that Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff supports his desire to continue racing and wouldn’t hinder his return to a race seat, even if it’s not with Mercedes. The Finnish driver believes he still has more to offer in the sport and is determined to find a way back onto the grid in the upcoming seasons.

As Bottas prepares for the uncertainties and challenges ahead, his resilience and determination showcase his unwavering commitment to Formula 1 and his eagerness to secure a competitive drive for the future.
