Mercedes-Benz and BMW have announced that they have established a partnership to create a joint venture equally owned by both companies to operate a high-power charging network in China.
In a statement, Mercedes states that “the partnership between the two companies will allow for the creation of at least 1,000 high-power charging stations in the country, with around 7,000 charging points by the end of 2026, adopting state-of-the-art charging technologies.”.
The first stations are expected to open in 2024 in regions with the highest number of electric vehicle sales.
It is worth noting that BMW and Mercedes already work with other companies in the launch of the Ionity fast charging network in Europe, and now plan to open their chargers in China to a wide range of electric vehicle brands, with some services such as plug & charge and online reservation being exclusively reserved for their customers.
