After presenting the prototype at this year’s F1 Monaco Grand Prix, Mercedes-AMG has now unveiled the exclusive PureSpeed in Abu Dhabi, the first model from the new Mythos family, which will be limited to just 250 units.
Based on the Mercedes SL, the design of the PureSpeed is characterized by a combination of a low silhouette, a long hood, and a front that is very close to the ground, featuring a distinctive shark-nose shape.
With its wide air intake, AMG lettering, and a darkened and chromed Mercedes star, the front resembles that of the Mercedes-AMG One. Additionally, the model features an aerodynamically optimized hood and includes small partially transparent deflectors at the front and sides, which prevent turbulence from disturbing the driver and passenger.
Aerodynamic elements, sharply defined in visible carbon fiber at the bottom, create a strong contrast with the rounded shapes of the upper part. The trunk lid and rear diffuser are also aerodynamically optimized. Its design takes into account the absence of a roof.
Note also the forged 21-inch wheels with carbon fiber covers, which are another important highlight of this model, just like the extendable rear spoiler. Additionally, an active aerodynamic element is also hidden at the bottom of the body, contributing to increased downforce on the front axle.
Another highlight is the Halo system, which this model uses instead of the conventional A-pillar. This element was inspired by Formula 1 single-seaters and helps protect the driver’s head in the event of an accident.
There are also two aerodynamically optimized helmets, specifically designed and manufactured for the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, which feature a paint job matching the body color and include a communication system via intercom. The helmets allow the driver and passenger to communicate clearly, even at high speeds. As an additional feature, smartphones can be paired with the intercom system, enabling the driver and passenger to talk on the phone and listen to music through the helmets’ speakers.
Inside, there is a highlight of a set of special elements, such as the AMG Performance seats with special leather upholstery and decorative stitching. Mercedes also included a custom analog clock designed by IWC Schaffhausen, prominently placed in the center of the instrument panel in a teardrop-shaped case in glossy black over a base made of carbon fiber.
Additionally, the high-quality Burmester 3D sound system is equipped with 15 speakers and 1,170 watts of power, promising an authentic sound experience reminiscent of an outdoor summer festival.
Note also a plaque on the center console that mentions ‘1 of 250’ to indicate that the model is part of the strictly limited Mythos series.
In mechanical terms, this exclusive Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed utilizes a 4.0-liter AMG biturbo V8 engine with a maximum power output of 585 hp and a maximum torque of 800 Nm, which is paired with a nine-speed transmission that sends power to all four wheels, allowing for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaching a top speed of 315 km/h.
Like other Mercedes models, the PureSpeed is equipped with the Active Ride Control system to optimize the suspension, as well as a high-performance AMG ceramic braking system as standard, featuring fixed 6-piston brake calipers at the front and floating 1-piston calipers at the rear, painted in black with white AMG logos.
