Mercedes-AMG has set a new record for the fastest lap time for a GT model at the Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, Australia, with a special version of the AMG GT3 completing the 6,213-meter track in 1m56.605s.
The feat was achieved by driver Jules Gounon behind the wheel of the AMG sports car, equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 engine, capable of producing around 650 hp, without any performance restrictions. This allowed the current Intercontinental GT Challenge champion to beat the previous record held by Luke Youlden with a Brabham BT62 since 2019 by 2.074 seconds.
The GT3 used was designed to achieve maximum performance, utilizing an optimized aerodynamic package, including a revised front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser. Additionally, this AMG GT3 uses a drag reduction system inspired by Formula 1, contributing to a top speed of 308.71 km/h on the circuit’s long straight of approximately 2 km.
