After revealing the Mercedes-AMG GT 43, the sports division of the German brand took advantage of the Formula 1 GP in China that took place over the weekend to introduce the top-of-the-line variant, the GT 63 SE Performance, which comes with 816 hp and a maximum torque of up to 1420 Nm.
At the core of this extreme combined power is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 612 hp between 5750 and 6500 rpm, and a torque of 850 Nm between 2500 and 4500 rpm, which combines with an electric motor installed on the rear axle that adds an additional 204 hp and 320 Nm of torque, and features a limited-slip differential and a two-speed gearbox.
All power is transmitted to the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system by a nine-speed AMG Speedshift MCT 9G gearbox.
The electric motor is powered by an AMG High Performance battery with a capacity of only 6.1 kWh, which can be charged through the 3.7 kW onboard charger, and was developed based on the technology used in the Formula 1 Mercedes team’s cars, allowing for an electric-only range of 13 km.
Everything works together in this plug-in hybrid, with Affalterbach announcing that the GT 63 SE Performance is the fastest accelerating production model of all time, capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds faster than the AMG One. However, the top speed is 320 km/h, 32 km/h less than the F1-inspired hypercar.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance comes standard with a multitude of systems designed to provide excellent performance, including the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with semi-active roll stabilization and rear-axle steering, as well as eight driving modes: “Electric”, “Battery Hold”, “Comfort”, “Slippery”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “RACE”, and “Individual”, which the driver can access through AMG Dynamic Select.
To brake this powerful GT 63 SE Performance, the carbon-ceramic discs, included as standard, have a diameter of 420 mm and six-piston calipers at the front, and a diameter of 380 mm and single-piston calipers at the rear, “hidden” behind 20” wheels with a 10-spoke design.
Aesthetically, the GT 63 SE Performance comes standard with active aerodynamics elements, among which the carbon front profile stands out (reacts to selected driving modes, automatically extending downwards about 40 mm from 80 km/h, creating the so-called Venturi effect, which “pushes” the car onto the road), and the extendable rear deflector, with five new positions.
Inside, the highlights are the AMG sports seats with electric adjustment, three massage programs, and many customization options through the Manufaktur program.
Highlight also for the MBUX infotainment system, with a series of graphics specific to this PHEV version, which allow you to visualize in real time the energy flows of the combustion and electric motors.
The price and market arrival of the new AMG GT 63 SE Performance should be known soon.
