Mercedes acknowledges they are not as quick as McLaren and Max Verstappen even after a massive improvement in 2024.

A Trackside Engineer from Mercedes has played down the team’s impressive improvement this season. After a sluggish start, the Silver Arrows have caught up with Red Bull, McLaren, and Ferrari.

Red Bull’s current leader dominates the championship, having won seven out of a possible 14 races. However, McLaren has consistently challenged and outpaced them throughout the season.

The engineer has identified that the W15 struggles on circuits with higher temperatures and shorter distances. He acknowledges that Mercedes still has significant deficiencies in these conditions, where both Max Verstappen and McLaren have excelled.

The 50-year-old engineer highlighted the team’s strong performance at Silverstone compared to their weaker showings in Budapest and Spielberg. The Silver Arrows will now focus on addressing these shortcomings to deliver consistent results after the summer break.

Kimi Antonelli has praised Toto Wolff for being a supportive figure during challenging moments in his Formula 2 career. He credits Wolff’s advice for helping him perform well despite struggling at times this season.

The Austrian boss has also expressed admiration for the 17-year-old’s talent and skills, indicating his willingness to sign the Italian driver. The coming months will determine if a move to Mercedes awaits Antonelli, as he aims to continue his impressive form in Formula 2.
