Scott McLaughlin achieved the fastest four-lap average in the history of the Indianapolis 500, while Team Penske secured a top three in qualifying. NASCAR star Kyle Larson also impressed competing for the pole position. The battle for the pole was intense, with McLaughlin delivering an incredible first lap at a speed of 234.526 mph in hot conditions. His average speed over the four laps was 234.220 mph, making him the only driver in the 234 mph range. McLaughlin’s pole position is his second on an oval track and his best starting position at the Indianapolis 500. Team Penske’s front row dominance repeats their 1988 achievement and marks their 19th pole position at the event. Chevrolet secured their 13th pole at the Indianapolis 500, the first since 2019. McLaughlin’s impressive performance came after Chevrolet worked to resolve a mechanical issue. Larson, driving for McLaren, showcased his skills by finishing fifth in his first qualifying session at the Indianapolis 500. Santino Ferrucci, Rinus VeeKay, Pato O’Ward, Felix Rosenqvist, and Takuma Sato also secured strong positions in qualifying. Marcus Ericsson faced challenges during qualifying but managed to secure a spot in the race. Katherine Legge, Marcus Ericsson, and Graham Rahal also faced difficulties but qualified for the race. Nolan Siegel was excluded from the grid.
