McLaren’s Shocking Double Disqualification: Norris and Piastri’s F1 Las Vegas GP Nightmares Unfold!

McLaren’s Double DQ: F1 Loses its Glimmer in Vegas as Norris and Piastri Get the Boot!

In a shocking turn of events at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, McLaren has been rocked by a scandalous double disqualification, leaving fans and teams alike in disbelief! Star drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have been stripped of their hard-fought second and fourth-place finishes after their cars failed to adhere to the crucial minimum thickness requirement for the rear skid block. This disqualification marks a dramatic twist in the 2025 Formula 1 season, as both drivers breached Article 3.5.9 e) of the technical regulations, which mandates that the thickness of the plank assembly must be between 10mm ± 0.2mm when new, with a minimum acceptable thickness of 9mm due to wear.

This catastrophic ruling catapults Mercedes’ George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli into the spotlight, who now ascend to second and third places, respectively, behind the dominant Max Verstappen. The Dutchman, celebrating his sixth victory of the season, is now just 24 points behind championship leader Norris, with only two Grands Prix and a sprint race remaining. Verstappen’s pursuit of a fifth consecutive title now appears more attainable, especially as he shares joint-second position with Piastri.

The drama doesn’t end there! Piastri, who at one point led the standings by an impressive 34 points at the end of August, has seen his title hopes crumble amid a disheartening podium-less streak that has now extended to six races. While Verstappen needs some luck to clinch the championship, he’s in a far better position than the 42-point deficit he faced after the recent Vegas debacle, which marks the fifth and sixth disqualifications of 2025.

Let’s not forget the preceding controversies! Earlier this season, Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly were disqualified from the Shanghai Grand Prix for being 1kg underweight, while Lewis Hamilton lost his sixth-place finish due to excessive wear on his rear skid block. The Bahrain Grand Prix also saw Nico Hulkenberg disqualified for similar infractions. However, none of these incidents were as monumental as the loss faced by Norris in Las Vegas.

As the dust settles on this astonishing weekend, Mercedes’ Russell may have crossed the line first, but his joy was short-lived when it was revealed that his W15 was found to be 1.5kg underweight, causing Hamilton to seize his 105th career win. Interestingly, Hamilton himself was the last driver to lose a podium finish through disqualification, a fate he suffered at the 2023 United States GP due to excessive rear skid block wear, paving the way for Norris to claim second.

The fallout from Vegas is set to reverberate through the F1 community, raising questions about the integrity of the sport and the boundaries of compliance. As the championship battle heats up, fans are left wondering whether McLaren can recover from this disqualification disaster or if Verstappen will seize the opportunity to reign supreme.

The updated standings following this dramatic disqualification are as follows: 1. Max Verstappen 2. George Russell 3. Andrea Kimi Antonelli 4. Charles Leclerc 5. Carlos Sainz 6. Isack Hadjar 7. Nico Hulkenberg 8. Lewis Hamilton 9. Esteban Ocon 10. Oliver Bearman

As the season approaches its climax, fans are on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating what twists and turns lie ahead in this electrifying Formula 1 saga!
