In a shocking turn of events at the Japanese Grand Prix Qualifying, McLaren was left stunned as Max Verstappen swooped in to claim pole position, denying their drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri the top spot. The qualifying session was filled with intense competition, with Norris coming in just 12 thousandths of a second behind Verstappen, and Piastri following closely behind.

One of the most surprising moments of the day was Liam Lawson beating out his Red Bull replacement Yuki Tsunoda, finishing in 14th place on his third Racing Bulls debut. This unexpected twist left fans on the edge of their seats and highlighted the fierce competition within the Red Bull team.

The session was not without its challenges, as a red flag was raised during Q2 due to fires that have been a recurring issue throughout the weekend. This marked the fifth stoppage of the weekend, adding an element of unpredictability to the already intense qualifying rounds.
