McLaren’s Executive Reshuffle: Alunni Bravi Joins as Chief Business Affairs Officer

McLaren Racing has announced a significant shakeup in its leadership team, unveiling Alessandro Alunni Bravi as its new Chief Business Affairs Officer. The former Sauber Group Managing Director and Stake F1 Team Representative is set to join McLaren starting 1 February 2025, as the team continues its push for excellence both on and off the track.

This appointment follows Bravi’s departure from Sauber, where he stepped aside for Jonathan Wheatley, a Red Bull Racing veteran who now serves as Sauber’s team principal. At McLaren, Bravi will report directly to CEO Zak Brown and take on a newly created role encompassing a range of critical responsibilities.

Bravi’s Role at McLaren

According to McLaren’s official statement, Bravi will oversee multiple facets of McLaren Racing’s operations, including:

  • Driver Development Program: Transitioning leadership from Stephanie Carlin, Bravi will take charge of nurturing talent across McLaren’s racing series.
  • Driver Contract Management: Ensuring strategic alignment between McLaren’s long-term objectives and its roster of drivers.
  • Legal and Business Affairs: Overseeing legal and governance-related matters.
  • Commercial Strategy: Supporting McLaren’s business initiatives across various motorsport disciplines.

Zak Brown emphasized Bravi’s extensive motorsport background and its alignment with McLaren’s goals:

“Alessandro’s expertise and leadership will strengthen our ability to deliver results across all our racing series. His vast experience in driver development, governance, and commercial matters makes him an invaluable addition to McLaren Racing.”

Bravi’s Thoughts on Joining McLaren

Bravi expressed enthusiasm about his new position and the opportunity to contribute to McLaren’s storied legacy:

“McLaren is a team I have admired my entire life. To join this organization is both a privilege and a responsibility. I am committed to giving my full dedication to help build on the team’s success and uphold its values.”

A Farewell to Steve Atkins

Bravi’s appointment coincides with the departure of Steve Atkins, McLaren’s Chief Communications Officer. After two years with the team, Atkins is stepping down for personal reasons to focus on family priorities. Zak Brown expressed gratitude for Atkins’ contributions:

“Steve has been instrumental in our success over the last two seasons. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Atkins reflected on his time with McLaren:

“It’s been an incredible journey, but it’s time for me to prioritize family while seeking a professional challenge closer to home. McLaren’s future is bright, and I’ll be cheering for them from the sidelines.”

Bravi’s Track Record in Motorsport

Bravi’s impressive career spans over two decades, including leadership roles at ART Grand Prix, SPARK Racing Technology, and Trident Racing. Most recently, he played a pivotal role in Sauber’s corporate strategy and development, making him an ideal fit for McLaren’s ambitious objectives.

What’s Next for McLaren?

With Bravi’s arrival and McLaren’s continued focus on operational excellence, the team is poised to strengthen its position across multiple racing platforms, including Formula 1. As McLaren transitions into a new chapter, fans and stakeholders alike will eagerly watch how Bravi’s expertise shapes the team’s future trajectory.
