Is McLaren’s Supremacy in Danger? Lando Norris Issues a Warning: “Red Bull is Getting Closer. And Max…”
After the thrilling race in Suzuka, Lando Norris has sounded the alarm on the reigning champion’s threat looming over the rest of the championship. Despite McLaren being touted as the team to beat, both on single lap pace and in the race, they couldn’t quite match the resilience of the current champion, who is now just one point behind leader Lando Norris in the standings.
During the press conference, Norris attempted to shift the narrative of McLaren’s “missed victory,” highlighting Red Bull’s performance improvement and their close competition with the MCL39. “Our weakness was in the slow corners,” explained the #4 driver from the Woking team, “there were a lot fewer fast corners at Suzuka, so we lost some of our strengths and had more weaknesses.”
Expressing contrasting views, Norris reiterated, “It’s clear that they are fast,” expressing his expectation of a competitive Verstappen at every circuit. “I believe Oscar and I extracted a lot from the car in qualifying. Maybe there was still a bit of margin, but both of our theoretical ideal lap times weren’t that much ahead. Max is doing a good job, and Red Bull seems to have gained some ground. But throughout the season, they haven’t done too badly. If you look at Australia, he was fighting for the win. If you look at China, he wasn’t far off. And this weekend went very well. So, I expect him to challenge us every weekend.”
The battle for supremacy in Formula 1 is heating up, with McLaren feeling the pressure from a resurgent Red Bull and a determined Max Verstappen.
