McLaren Revs Up for Major Car Change to Boost Norris’ Performance

In a groundbreaking move to elevate Lando Norris’ performance on the track, McLaren is gearing up for a significant improvement in its car design for the 2025 season. Despite Norris currently leading the world championship standings, the young driver has expressed some dissatisfaction with the performance of the MCL39, particularly during single-lap qualifying runs.

Team boss Andrea Stella revealed that McLaren has identified a crucial area for enhancement in the car to provide Norris with a smoother and more natural driving experience, especially when pushing for the best lap times. While specific details of the modifications remain undisclosed, Stella hinted that the focus is on reducing the car’s sensitivity to the driver’s input, particularly in relation to braking dynamics.

One key aspect where Norris has faced challenges compared to his teammate Oscar Piastri is in his braking technique and its impact on tire interaction. By overlapping braking and cornering phases on entry, Norris tends to load the front tires more progressively, which can lead to early front tire graining issues. The planned improvements to the braking system aim to enhance Norris’ sensitivity and understanding of the car’s behavior, providing him with better control and feel for the tire’s grip under braking.

Stella emphasized that while Norris struggles in this specific area, Piastri faces different challenges within the car setup, showcasing the unique driving styles and preferences of each driver. The ongoing development work by McLaren aims to tailor the car’s performance to meet the distinct requirements of both drivers, optimizing their capabilities on the track.

As McLaren pushes the boundaries of innovation and performance in Formula 1, the upcoming car changes for 2025 hold the promise of unlocking Norris’ full potential and solidifying his position as a top contender in the championship race. Stay tuned as McLaren revolutionizes its engineering approach to propel Norris towards even greater success on the race track.
