NTT Indycar Series - Spring Training

McLaren Racing and United Autosports Join Forces for Hypercar Domination

In a groundbreaking announcement, McLaren Racing has revealed a strategic collaboration with United Autosports for the upcoming Hypercar program set to debut in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship. This exciting partnership marks McLaren’s return to the fiercely competitive realm of Hypercar racing, stirring up anticipation among motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.

The history between McLaren and United Autosports runs deep, with McLaren having clinched victory in the race three decades ago with the iconic McLaren F1 GTR and the exceptional driving skills of J.J. Lehto, Yannick Dalmas, and Masanori Sekiya. Now, the two powerhouses are set to reignite their winning legacy in the Hypercar category.

Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing and co-owner of United Autosports alongside former racing driver Richard Dean, expressed utmost confidence in the collaboration. Brown highlighted the significance of James Barclay, the ex-McLaren Formula E team principal, who will play a pivotal role in McLaren’s Hypercar venture as they aim to establish themselves as a dominant force on the track.

Excitement is palpable as Brown stated, “McLaren Racing’s return to the FIA World Endurance Championship marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for us, and James’ leadership will be crucial in guiding us through the coming months as we prepare for our 2027 entry.” The anticipation peaks as fans eagerly await an exclusive preview of McLaren’s 2027 race car at the ongoing 24 Hours of Le Mans – Manufacturers’ Village on Saturday, 14 June at 10:00 CEST.

In response, Barclay expressed his honor in joining a brand as esteemed as McLaren Racing, emphasizing his eagerness to uphold the legacy of racing excellence and pioneering spirit that McLaren embodies. Barclay’s commitment to leading McLaren Endurance Racing to the summit of success further fuels the anticipation surrounding this formidable collaboration.

As the motorsport world braces for the forthcoming Hypercar battles, the McLaren-United Autosports alliance promises a spectacle of speed, skill, and relentless determination. Stay tuned as these racing titans gear up to conquer the track and etch their names in the annals of motorsport history.
