The fire and ambulance teams quickly arrived at the paddock and dealt with the fire on site. It was reported that two of the firefighters were receiving treatment for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still unknown, with some sources suggesting it may have been caused by an electrical fault. The smoke spread rapidly through the crowded hospitality unit, which was filled with media members and teams.
McLaren released a brief statement informing that their Team Hub hospitality unit in the paddock had been evacuated due to a fire alert. The team members were safely evacuated while the local fire brigade dealt with the situation. The fire started shortly before the start of the final training session, but was extinguished within 15 minutes after the start of the session.
Ongoing reports are being conducted on the incident.
