Lando Norris, a British driver from McLaren, made a pit stop during the Formula 1 World Championship race in Montreal, Canada. McLaren revealed that a mistake was made by making Norris’ pit stop one lap too late due to the track position and weather conditions. Norris had done well to preserve his intermediate tires early on and had taken the lead, but a Logan Sargeant accident caused the Safety Car to come out, dropping Norris to third place. McLaren team manager Stella explained that Norris was on the pit straight when the safety car entered the track, leading to a last-second decision on the pit wall that turned out to be wrong. Stella mentioned that they could have instructed Norris to pit in case of a Safety Car, but they did not. The team also debated whether to switch to new intermediate tires due to the possibility of more rain, but ultimately decided against it. Norris ended up finishing in second place, behind Max Verstappen.
