McLaren Racing Supercharges F1 Academy with Groundbreaking Expansion and Rising Star Ella Häkkinen

McLaren Racing Supercharges Women’s Motorsport with Groundbreaking Expansion!

In an electrifying move that’s set to resonate throughout the world of motorsport, McLaren Racing has unveiled a monumental expansion of its Driver Development Programme, heralding a new era for female racers in the competitive realm of Formula 1. The prestigious Woking-based team is not just adding one, but two new stars to its lineup, along with a second car in the groundbreaking F1 Academy series.

Currently, McLaren fields a single car in this all-female racing initiative, piloted by the talented Ella Lloyd. But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Joining her in 2026 will be the phenomenal Ella Stevens, making her mark in a second McLaren-backed vehicle, expertly operated by Rodin Motorsport. This expansion marks a pivotal step towards enhancing female representation in a sport historically dominated by men.

Adding to the buzz, McLaren has officially welcomed 14-year-old prodigy Ella Häkkinen into its Driver Development Programme. As the youngest signing in McLaren’s illustrious history, Häkkinen is not just riding on the coattails of her two-time Formula 1 champion father, Mika Häkkinen; she’s already making waves in her own right! After clinching her first major international victory at the esteemed 2024 Champions of the Future Academy in Cremona, she is set to test single-seaters, gearing up for a promising 2027 season.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, expressed his pride in this initiative, stating, “While I recognise that more remains to be done to increase female representation in motorsport, I’m immensely proud of the progress we’ve made in this space. I hope this signals to all the amazingly talented female karters, drivers, engineers, mechanics, marketeers, and accountants out there that our sport is open to all and deeply committed to keeping up the incredible momentum we have seen over the past few years.”

Brown didn’t shy away from acknowledging the critical partnership with NEOM, stating, “To now have three talented young female drivers in our Driver Development Programme is really exciting, and I cannot wait to see them hit the track.” This partnership aims to create further pathways for women in motorsport, ensuring that the sport is not just inclusive but thriving with talent.

At just 19 years old, Ella Stevens has already made a name for herself as the only woman to triumph in the KZ2 karting class in the UK, finishing as the runner-up in the 2025 British KZ2 Karting Championship. Her achievements are a testament to the potential that lies within female racers and the importance of their representation on the international stage.

As McLaren Racing revs up for this exciting chapter, the motorsport community can only anticipate the thrilling performances that await from these trailblazing young women. Their journey not only inspires the next generation of female drivers but also signals a significant shift in the culture of motorsport, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse environment.

The question remains: what other surprises does McLaren Racing have in store as they continue to champion women in motorsport? Buckle up, because the race is just beginning!
